Forming an LLC for a Virtual or E-Commerce Business

One common question that comes up when forming an LLC for a virtual or e-commerce business has to do with where to register the LLC. Many virtual or e-commerce businesses have no real “location.” Often times, the LLC owner works in multiple locations or travels around on a regular basis.

The first, and typically best, option is to form the LLC in the state in which you reside. Consider this your “home base.” Even if you travel all over the country for business, much of the administrative work is typically done at your home, office, or even a coffee shop down the road. That means that your LLC is primarily based in your state. In this type of situation, registering the LLC in your state is often the best way to go.
