Unquestionably, having a registered trademark is the best way to protect your brand elements like a business name and logo. So how much will it cost to trademark a name or logo?
The USPTO application filing fees will depend on a few different factors:
- If you’re filing a TEAS Plus or TEAS Standard application
- The filing basis
- How many classes of goods/services
TEAS Plus or TEAS Standard
The current filing fee for a TEAS Plus application is $250 per class of goods/services. The TEAS Standard filing fee is $350 per class of goods/services.
In most cases, an application filed on a 1(a) Current Use basis won’t incur any additional fees aside from the initial application filing fee. Whereas, with a 1(b) Intent-to-Use filing basis, an additional fee of $125/class will be due when you file the Statement of Use or $100/class if you submit a request for an extension of time to file the Statement of Use.
Classes of Goods/Services
Most fees associated with the trademark application are per class. There are 45 different classes of goods and services. Depending on the nature of your business, it may be wise to register the trademark in multiple classes. Be sure to take this into account when planning a budget for your trademark application.
